In my experience as a Certified Wedding Planner and Ceremony Officiant, I have witnessed countless ceremonies filled with love, magic, and emotion.
However, there is one thats holds a special place in my heart and that I will always remember as one of the most romantic and momorable: a Renewal of Vows ceremony in 2011. Here is the story:
The Arrival of the Guests
As on many other occasions, I arrived at the hotel to coordinate the last details. The place was perfectly decorated, ready to receive the guests. Little by little, the family from Italy gathered: children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. There was a special energy in the atmosphere, a mix of anticipation and tenderness that enveloped everyone.
Before starting the ceremony, I had a conversation with the groom, a man of about 70 years old dressed in an elegant suit and with an Italian accent in his impeccable English, shook my hand and said:
—Hello Pam, has my princess arrived?
I smiled at him and assured him that she was already on her way. With a sparkle in his eyes and a smile full of love, he replied:
—She is my princess. We have been married for 50 years, and every day I love her more. She is everything to me.
The groom was keen to talk to me just before the ceremony and make a special request. He said:
“She thinks we don’t have rings, but I have a ring for her. It’s a surprise!”
He specifically asked me to pretend to know there were no rings so that the surprise would be more impactful.
I made sure everything was ready so that the moment would be perfect. During the ceremony, as I talked about love and commitment, I couldn’t help but feel that words were almost unnecessary. They already knew what true love was. Their eyes said it all: a deep, unconditional, and eternal love.
The Crowning Moment
When it was time to exchange rings, she explained to me that they didn't have any.
It was then that he pulled a small box out of his pocket.
Opening it, he revealed a dazzling diamond ring, worthy of a movie star. She was visibly moved and speechless. His voice filled with emotion, he said,
“The size of this precious stone may not even represent the depth of love I feel for you. You are my princess, and I love you more and more with each passing day.”
Tears of joy welled up in her eyes as the entire family applauded and celebrated their kiss. It was such a touching moment that even I had to fight back my tears.
A Lesson of Love
In my career, I have organized many weddings and officiated ceremonies, but this renewal of vows left an indelible mark on me.
It reminded me that true love not only lasts over time but also grows and strengthens with each day.
